Dr. Javier D. Fernández (WU Wien)

Dr. Javier D. Fernández is a postdoctoral research fellow under an FWF (Austrian Science funds) Lise-Meitner grant. He holds a PhD in Computer Science by the University of Valladolid (Spain), and the University of Chile (Chile), performing this double diploma thanks to an Erasmus Mundus grant.

His thesis addressed efficient management of Big Semantic Data, proposing a binary RDF representation for scalable publishing, exchanging and consumption in the Web of Data. He has published more than 40 articles and served in programme committees of several international conferences and workshops.

Before he joined the WU, he worked at the Ontology Engineering Group (OEG) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), and the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Informatica Automatica e Gestionale at Sapienza Università di Roma (Italy). His current research focuses on efficient Linked Data access, RDF streaming, archiving and querying dynamic Linked Data.

Prof. Axel Polleres (WU Wien)

Prof. Dr. Axel Polleres is a full professor working in the area of Data and Knowledge Engineering at the Institute of Information Business of Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien). His research focuses on querying and reasoning about ontologies, rules languages, logic programming, Semantic Web technologies, Web services, knowledge management, Linked Open Data, configuration technologies and their applications.

Axel has published more than 100 (over 100 DBLP listed) articles in journals, books, and conference and workshop contributions and has co-authored a book on Semantic Web Services. Moreover, he actively contributed to several standards in the W3C, including SPARQL1.1 (where he co-chaired the respective working group).

He has co-organised several international conferences and workshops (several of which as local chair, e.g. RR2011& Reasoning Web Summer School 2011, SEMANTiCS 2015) in the areas of logic programming, Semantic Web, data management, Web services and related topics and acts as editorial board member for JWS, SWJ and IJSWIS. He served in programme committees of several international conferences and workshops, such as for instance WWW, IJCAI, AAAI, ISWC, ESWC, PODS, AAMAS, or ICSOC.
